World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo Parade

The 2011 August Doins Parade, "Western Leather and Lace," will be held on August 20th on Historic Main Street in Payson, Arizona. The Parade is sponsored by the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Steve Coury Automotive Family, KMOG, Gila County Mounted Posse, and Kiwanis of Zane Grey Country. It will include the famous APS clowns, rodeo queens and their courts, Ronald McDonald, Payson High School Band, local floats, first responders teams, and many other great entries from all over Arizona.

The Rodeo Parade will begin at Green Valley Park and proceed east to Saw Mill Crossing.  This allows the parade participants to stage in the shade, rather than in the hot sun on the hotter asphalt. Come and enjoy the Parade in the relaxed setting of Main St., and stay to enjoy the local shops and restaurants.  You may be surprised who will be open for your enjoyment.  Normally 20 degrees cooler and less than a tank of gas from the valley, the August Doin’s Parade is an event to remember.

The weather is generally beautiful in August and the crowds are very large, so get down to Main Street early to make sure you get a good seat. Local businesses, volunteers, civic groups, rodeo queens, and clowns will bring a smile to the faces of young and old alike as they march down old main.

The fun will start at 9:00 a.m. when the cowboys and cowgirls will strut their stuff, along with the floats, cars, tractors, teams, bands and units of the El Zaribah Shriners. The parade will be led by a Marine Honor Guard on horseback, and will go East from Green Valley Park to Sawmill Crossing. Announcers along the route - Fred Carpenter at the Community Presbyterian Church, Eddie Armer at the Senior Center and Michael Rose at the Pine Country Animal Clinic, will keep you posted on the coming entries, and provide music for your entertainment.

So, bring your "mountain" chair, water, and the kids, and enjoy a great morning with some fabulous entertainment, antique cars, clowns, horses, and help Rim Country celebrate "August Doins."
